New Jersey Tutoring Corps - August Newsletter
Dear Colleagues and Partners:
It is hard to believe that summer is coming to a close and a new school year begins. At New Jersey Tutoring Corps/Pennsylvania Tutoring Corps NJTC/PATC),
we are excited about what we have accomplished with our scholars this summer and looking forward to our fourth school year with both returning and new
school and district partners. Together, our goal is to close scholar academic gaps while building scholar confidence, and, to simultaneously expand the
educator workforce. Below, please find some recent news about our work along with opportunities for engagement with us and organizations whose work we value.

Summer by the Numbers
It was another successful summer for New Jersey Tutoring Corps! Across 13 program locations, we served 457 scholars with the support of 68 tutors and site leaders.
We are grateful to our dedicated team and all of our community and program partners whose collaboration and support helped make another successful summer possible. Together, we continue to provide meaningful learning opportunities for scholars across New Jersey.
Celebrating The First Cohort of Tutor Apprentices
This year marked an exciting milestone for New Jersey Tutoring Corps and our First-in-the-Nation Registered Tutor Apprenticeship Program. In June, we celebrated our first 12 graduates from the inaugural cohort of Tutor Apprentices at Rutgers University. We were excited to host Julie Diaz, Deputy Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, N.J. Department of Labor, Nicole Field our United States Department of Labor Apprenticeship Training Representative, Dr. Chelsea Collins RTI program lead, our district leaders: Dr. Gurkhan Kose (iLearn), Ms. Dawn Fantasia (iLearn), Dr. Robert Fisicaro (Haddon Twp) and Director Valentina Green from the Essex County One-Stop. Our apprentices shared their experiences and the impact our program had on their career. We continue to be so proud of them.
Throughout the program, apprentices worked hands-on with scholars mastering competencies in Professionalism, Instruction, Planning and Environment. Their dedication has strengthened their skills while making a meaningful impact on the scholars they serve. They received monthly career coaching and financial incentives to cover education gaps such as content exams or post-secondary coursework. Since the June event, 7 more apprentices completed their requirements bringing our total completers to 19.
We are grateful to the U.S. Department of Labor and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development for their continued partnership and investment in creating pathways for aspiring educators. Congratulations to all 19 completers on this well-earned achievement.

Legislative Visits
This summer, we were pleased to welcome Assemblywoman Heather Simmons, Assemblywoman Tennille McCoy Brennan, Assemblywoman Andrea Katz, and Senator Michael Testa to visit our summer programs.
These site visits provided an opportunity for our legislators to see our scholars and educators in action, learn more about the impact of New Jersey Tutoring Corps, and experience firsthand how our programs are helping students build confidence and achieve academic success.
We are grateful for their time, interest, and continued support of educational opportunities for New Jersey students.
