Governor Sherrill’s Commitment to Public School Scholars Through High-Impact Tutoring Appreciated by New Jersey Educators

Governor Mikie Sherrill signed the Fiscal Year 2027 Appropriations Act on Tuesday evening, June 30th.
The FY27 Budget will invest $15 million to support targeted, evidence-based high-impact tutoring in school districts around the state,
providing students with frequent, small-group tutoring aligned with classroom learning. Today’s agreement comes on the heels of a $7.5 million
investment announced in early June to support high-impact tutoring for school districts and charter schools statewide. This year's budget also
includes a $750,000 appropriation for the New Jersey Tutoring Corps, Inc. (NJTC) to support its high-impact tutoring program this summer, in
partnership with community-based organizations, as well as its school-year programs.
Since the launch of NJTC almost four years ago, New Jersey scholars served by NJTC have demonstrated significant gains in student achievement,
and the organization has grown from serving 500 New Jersey scholars in its first year to over 16,000 across more than 200 locations. Initially
established as a corrective response to the state's dramatic learning gaps exacerbated by the pandemic, the organization has become a focal point
for implementing, operationalizing, and advocating for more high-impact tutoring across New Jersey. In addition, NJTC's work has earned recognition
as a national model for high-impact tutoring, educator workforce development, and innovative strategies that help students accelerate learning,
close achievement gaps, and achieve long-term success.
