New Jersey Education Policy Expert And Former NJDOE Leader Coleen Eskow Appointed To New Jersey Tutoring Corps Board Of Directors
Garden State’s Institutional Focal Point For Tutoring Celebrating Three Full Years of Service
[New Jersey – November 6, 2025] – The New Jersey Tutoring Corps (NJTC) announced today the appointment of Colleen Eskow to its Board of Directors. Initially established during the 2022-23 school year by First Lady Tammy Murphy and anchor institutions such as the Overdeck Family Foundation, The Tepper Foundation, the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund, the New Jersey Children's Foundation, the Prudential Foundation, The Carlson Family Foundation, the Debra and Kenneth Caplan Foundation, and The Stone Foundation, NJTC launched as a needed corrective response to the state's dramatic learning gaps exacerbated by the pandemic. Now entering its fourth full school year, NJTC has grown from serving approximately 500 scholars in its first year to over 15,500 scholars across 250 locations, becoming the state’s advocate for promoting the value of tutoring and expanding services throughout New Jersey. The most recent independent third-party evaluation showed that NJTC scholars' grade-level performance jumped by 550% in math and 150% in literacy after just one year of NJTC tutoring.
Ms. Eskow is one of the most accomplished education public policy leaders in New Jersey, with over a decade of experience shaping, advocating, and advancing public schools. She currently serves as the Chief Policy Officer at the New Jersey Children’s Foundation, where she leads the organization’s statewide policy development efforts and government relations. Prior, she spent 20 years at the New Jersey Department of Education, most recently as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Division of Legislative Affairs and Policy Development. There, she played a key leadership role in coordinating the Department’s legislative strategy, developing major policy initiatives regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, including the statewide school reopening plan, and managing critical state-level communications. She also served as Director of Government Affairs, where she acted as the primary liaison to the Governor’s Office and oversaw legislative and charter school policy.
“NJTC is thrilled Colleen will be joining a diverse and well respected Board of Directors,” stated NJTC CEO Katherine Bassett. “Colleen’s deep expertise in legislative strategy and stakeholder engagement will serve as a tremendous asset to NJTC. Throughout her professional career, she has been dedicated to improving student outcomes through equitable and practical solutions. She has also been a force in building coalitions, driving sound public policy, and expanding access to high-quality public education across the state. As an advocate and informal advisor to NJTC, her impact in collaborating with legislators, community groups, and education stakeholders has already yielded generation-changing results, helping make NJTC the most visible tutoring advocate in the state. We are grateful that she has agreed to join our Board and know that her formal involvement and being part of this amazing group will provide an immediate impact.”
“NJTC has quickly and substantively filled a tremendous void in New Jersey’s education space,” stated Colleen Eskow. “NJTC has recruited, vetted, hired, and trained hundreds of tutors across the state; developed partnerships with school districts and community organizations that have yielded new tutoring centers, and scaled substantially throughout New Jersey to serve thousands of families. With its many recent accolades, it is clear that New Jersey has truly built a national model for how tutoring can best serve communities. It is clearly a great moment to be a part of NJTC, and I am grateful for this important call to serve and will use all my energy to help in the fight to ensure every child in the state has access to high-impact tutoring."
