Dear Friends and Tutoring Advocates,

It has been a very busy November so far for many of us.

I wanted to first take a brief moment to offer my congratulations to our Governor-elect, Mikie Sherrill. While the New Jersey Tutoring Corps (NJTC) is a nonprofit that does not endorse candidates for office or participate in any political campaigns, we can certainly celebrate our shared passions.

This month, NJTC is celebrating three years of service within our public schools. Through the work of our dedicated team, we have built a tremendous statewide tutoring mechanism for public schools, providing the means and infrastructure to act quickly and establish needed tutoring services in any district in the state. We have also been statewide advocates for increased tutoring investment.

Thankfully, Governor-elect Sherrill is a proven advocate for tutoring. In Congress, she authored the bipartisan Expanding Access to High-Impact Tutoring Act, which sought to improve students' academic achievement and recovery by supporting high-impact tutoring programs in K-12 schools.

I am proud that the New Jersey Tutoring Corps joined a diverse group of education organizations that endorsed this legislation.

As someone who has dedicated their professional life to tutoring, it made a difference to have an advocate in Washington who truly understands that the return on investment for high-impact tutoring is significant and creates unquestionable generational change for our public school scholars who are most in need. NJTC sees Mikie's legislation as a game-changer for New Jersey and across the country, ensuring that our local classrooms receive the needed resources, funding, and support to implement high-impact tutoring.

I know our newsletter is reviewed by many parents, tutors, teachers, and education advocates who are passionate about tutoring. As a leader in this space, it is clear that the Governor-elect has seen the data, spoken directly to families and superintendents, and is dedicated to doing what is right for our kids. We are looking forward to working with the Governor-elect's team and will do all we can to assist, support, and collaborate with the new Administration.

In addition, I also wanted to showcase some great news! This week, the Annenberg Institute at Brown University released its latest Report, which profiles and examines how NJTC was established as a high-impact tutoring initiative to help K-8 students recover from pandemic-era learning loss. The Report can be found HERE. It provides a national showcase to how NJTC built strong partnerships with districts, embedded tutors during the school day and after school, aligned instruction to state standards, and scaled rapidly across urban, suburban, and rural sites.

This case study presents a real-world model outlining how NJTC turned research on high-impact tutoring into scalable practice—and the considerations that matter for success. Specifically, it offers practical insights into structuring and implementing tutoring programs at the local level, detailing how we developed plans for designing tutor-to-student ratios, scheduling sessions, co-designing programs with school partners, and building capacity for sustainability. We are truly honored by this recognition and hope you will have the time to review.

With gratitude,
