New Jersey Tutoring Corps - September Newsletter
Dear Colleagues and Partners:
We take impact seriously. Each year, since our inception, we pay an external evaluator to analyze our data and provide us with an impact study. We are very proud to share some of the key points of the school year 2025/26 impact study in this newsletter.
At the beginning of the program, less than 3% of our scholars were grade-level proficient in math. By the end of the program cycle, 20% were grade-level proficient in math. In Literacy, 6% of scholars were grade-level proficient at the start of the program cycle, and 17% were at or above grade level in literacy at the end of the cycle.
Some of the largest growth that we saw was with our scholars furthest behind - two to three grade levels behind or more. In math, scholars that were two or more grade levels behind shifted from 65% of our scholars to 37%. In Literacy, scholars two or more grade levels behind shifted from 70% to 48%.
This data tell us that our program is working. And that conclusion isn't coming from us; it comes from a nationally recognized researcher. Explore some of the key data points below, and read the full report here.

Our Partners
During the 2025–2026 school year, NJTC and PATC continued to expand their reach, supporting scholars across urban, suburban, and rural communities. Our programs also included 22 site leaders, with 34 school sites in New Jersey and two in Philadelphia. We are grateful to our district and community partners for their continued collaboration and commitment to helping scholars succeed.
693,800 minutes of tutoring!
Throughout the school year, our dedicated tutors delivered more than 693,000 minutes of direct, in-person instruction, helping scholars strengthen
foundational skills, build confidence, and make meaningful academic progress.
The results reflect growth in both math and literacy across all grade levels. We also gathered feedback from scholars, staff, and partners to better understand their experiences and the impact of our programs.
Our Impact - Math
Our scholars demonstrated significant progress in math throughout the program cycle.
At the start of the program, fewer than 3% of scholars were performing at grade level. By the end of the cycle, that number had increased to 20%.
Equally encouraging, the percentage of scholars performing two or more grade levels behind decreased from 65% to 37%.
These results highlight the progress scholars are making toward closing academic gaps and developing essential math skills.
Our Impact - Literacy
Our scholars also made meaningful gains in literacy.
At the beginning of the program cycle, just 6% of scholars were performing at or above grade level. By the end of the cycle, that percentage had increased to 17%.
The percentage of scholars performing two or more grade levels behind decreased from 70% to 48%.
These findings reflect the progress scholars are making in developing the foundational literacy skills needed for continued academic success.
Grade-Level Impact
Scholars across every grade level demonstrated growth in both math and literacy from the beginning to the end of the program cycle.
First-grade scholars demonstrated the greatest growth, followed by third-grade scholars.
These early academic gains are especially important for scholars who begin the program significantly behind grade level. By strengthening foundational skills during these critical years, we are helping prepare scholars for continued learning and success as they advance through school.
What Our Scholars Are Saying
We survey our scholars after every tutoring session to find out how much they believe they are learning. The feedback at right is summative across the school-year cycle.
We Love What We Do
